EAGLE SCOUT PROJECT

AIEA, HI - AUGUST/SEPTEMBER 2023

Sponsored by the HawaiiUSA Federal Credit Union (FCU) Foundation. In collaboration with Aiea High School (AHS), the Pacific & Asian Affairs Council (PAAC) Club at AHS, and Eagle Scout candidate, Thomas Pak, Jr.

We are so honored to have had the opportunity to support Thomas Pak, Jr., a current senior at Aiea High School, to complete his 2023 Eagle Scout Project.

Thomas’ project, titled ‘Sustainable Recycling Eagle Scout Project at Aiea High School’ utilizes three recycling bins on campus to encourage sustainability, awareness, and accountability. These recycling practices serve as an educational resource for students to promote, participate in, and pledge for a greener, more sustainable Hawaii.

The ‘Sustainable Recycling Eagle Scout’ project took two days of development to build three recycling bins; one day included wood-cutting and painting, and the second day for painting, assembling, and placement of the finished product.

The Pacific & Asian Affairs Council (PAAC) Club will be responsible for creating recycling schedules for these recycling bins. Thomas, who is also the President of the PAAC Club, states “Funds collected through these recycling efforts will be used to develop more sustainable practices or programs at Aiea High School.”

We would like to thank Principal Tanuvasa of Aiea High School, the PAAC Club Advisor, the Boy Scouts from Troop 326, and the HawaiiUSA FCU Foundation for making this project a success! Thomas hopes that this ‘Sustainable Recycling’ project motivates students to be more responsible for the waste(s) that they dispose of and to preserve the beautiful island that they live in.
